SEOUL, South Korea -- LG Electronics Co. says it developed a low-cost way for North American TV stations to transmit digital signals to cellphones and other portable gadgets, fixing a technological shortcoming that hindered the U.S. digital TV standard from global acceptance.
The company is using the electronics industry's big convention in Las Vegas starting Sunday to show how cellphones can pick up digital TV broadcasts from existing on-air signals. LG is expected to announce the development during its press conference on Sunday.
